Why Ghost Light?

Ghost lights hold a space in every superstitious theatre-goers heart. The ghost light itself is almost always some kind of light source surrounded by a wire cage (in the old days, these were gas lamps, traditionally now just an incandescent bulb or an LED). The ghost light would be left on at center stage within a theatre overnight, or sometimes over extended periods of time.

The most practical say that the ghost light stays there for the first people in the theatre. You can’t reach the light board if you don’t have any light. The more superstitious believe it serves more of a purpose. An old theatrical superstition states that every theatre has a ghost, and the light stays lit to appease them. Some believe it also allows them to make their way to the stage and perform one last time.

So why did we choose Ghostlight? Well, besides the fact that it sounds cool and the fantastic logo, because it represents our goals for theatre in DFW and beyond. In an area of relatively low numbers of performing arts and opportunities to create for the community, we want to be a guiding light for all the artists around us. We want to be a constant light in the DFW theatre scene, constantly putting on shows for you all. We want to bridge the gap between old traditions and new standards. To be the driving force for change, while holding in our hearts those things which got us here in the first place.
